Nikon D3100 Review

I’m still locked in this room when I’m supposed to be out there reviewing the D3100. I’m hungry, I’m thirsty, things are starting to itch and I want to get my hands on the new Nikon D3100.

So let’s go on with the Nikon D3100. Well the D3100 is the successor of D3000 and it’s got more megapixels and much more. Nikon D3100 is Nikon’s new entry-level DSLR. It’s got 14 megapixels, 4 more than a D3000.

Video mode of course! What’s more? It’s got live view like the D5000 and a movie mode with 1080p video recording capabilities.

It’s awesome! The AF system is actually working in the darkness. It’s got 11 auto focus points. That’s 2 more than the 550D.

The truth, D3100, what’s it about? Hold it in your hands and you’ll realize that it’s so small and it’s so light as well. You can see almost all the controls you need when taking photos on the right side. You’ve got the on off switch at the most reasonable place. And the modes switch which you can operate with your thumb. And the live view switch is really brilliant, just click it once, press the button and record.

This is truly one hand operation. And because it’s just so light you can just use it single-handedly. Not a problem!

The new expeed 2 processor should improve the noise performance. Let’s take a look! Here are some high ISO shots (see the video) starting from 800, 1600, 3200, 6400 and even go up to 12800. Although at 12800 the quality much looks like a webcam recording. While at 6400 it is much more usable.

Actually the D3100 is not that different from the D3000 and the D5000. It even looks pretty much the same. Then we’ve got an addition of the 1080p video mode. But the key thing is the continuous auto focus in the video mode which is seemingly the way to go for consumer DSLRs with video mode. It seems like Nikon is finally catching up to what Canon has been doing with their DSLR range.

Now they have a camera that you can fairly compare with the 550D.
